Are Bikes Set to Replace Cars?

Traveling the world has never been easier than it is today. Compared to our ancient ancestors that is. We are lucky enough to live in an age where we can hop on a flight and be around the world in less than a day. Something that, only one hundred years ago, was nearly impossible to do.

Modern transport makes traveling a dream. Flying has made more countries accessible. Cars and busses make it easier to traverse between cities and explore at your own pace. And motorized bikes let you have the independent trip of a lifetime.

But we have noticed a new trend in, not only the travel industry but the global community as a whole. And that is the trend of bikes replacing cars.

Climate Change Crisis

The biggest motivator for making the switch for most countries is, of course, the impending climate crisis. There is no denying that the world is warming up now. And one of the biggest contributors to the climate change crisis is exhaust fumes from cars. While it is by no means the biggest cause, it is still significant enough that if everyone made the switch to a bike then we would put a massive dent in the global emissions number.

Of course, right now it would be impossible to just outright get rid of all cars. Our society is built in such a way that people need their cars just to survive. But there is a lot that can be done to make positive changes. Let us look at how the travel and tourism industry is leading the way.

Touring on Bikes

When abroad you don’t want to spend all your time cooped up in your room. You want to get out and about. Take in the sights and soak up the culture. And it can be tempting to just rent a car or hop on a bus. And while a bus isn’t as bad as a car, we would recommend you look at renting a bike.

More nations have invested in rentable bikes that are spaced all over their cities. And some countries even have private companies setting up bikes rentals like the bike rental in Haarlem or Bangkok, which is all independently run. Using services like this is a great way to cut back on pollution while also supporting the local economy. And they are much safer, especially in countries with road laws different from your home.

Benefits of Replacement

There is a myriad of benefits to making the switch from cars to bikes, not just in terms of its environmental impact. One of the biggest being the benefits it brings to the economy. If there are fewer cars on the road, delivery services and public transport will work far more efficiently. This will mean customers can make it into town easier and stores get their needed deliveries sooner rather than later.

Not to mention it will make the roads safer by a significant margin. More people will be encouraged to start cycling if the roads aren’t as cluttered with cars. And this has the knock-on effect of making the general population a lot healthier and active. Many nations currently have an obesity epidemic which is further fueled by the fact that cars have become such a normal convenience in our lives. Why walk when you can drive. And drive-thru fast food is definitely not helping the situation either.

Overall, we think it is about time cars were sent to the scrap yard. There is no need to get rid of them together, especially with the introduction of electric cars. But if more people started riding their bikes everywhere, the world would be a better place in no time at all.
